Police high-ups attend funeral for martyred cops; inquire after health of injured ones

LAHORE - The funeral prayers for two martyred policemen, who were tortured to death the day before yesterday by violent protesters of a proscribed organisation, were offered here on Saturday at District Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh. A large number of policemen and senior police officers including Punjab IG Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan and Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar attended the funeral prayers. Relatives of the martyrs and their immediate family members also attended the funeral. Special prayers were offered for the departed souls of Head Constable Muhammad Ayub and Constable Khalid Javed. A smart contingent of policemen presented guard of honour to the martyred constables. Punjab IG Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan, CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar and other senior police officers laid floral wreaths on the bodies of Shaheed Head Constable Ayub and Constable Khalid Javed. The IG and the CCPO also met the family members of Shaheed policemen and assured them of complete cooperation from Punjab Police in every respect. Meanwhile, the CCPO also visited different hospitals including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Services, Mayo, and General Hospital to inquire after the health of injured policemen who were brutally tortured by the violent protesters of a proscribed organisation during recent clashes in the city. Senior police officers accompanied the CCPO. The city police chief presented bouquets of flower and financial assistance cheques to the under-treatment, injured policemen and prayed for their early recovery. They informed the CCPO about details of the brutal torture by activists of the proscribed organisation.
