GUJRANWALA: Fifty five people were booked while 21 of them were arrested on charges of blocking the GT Road against the arrest of a suspect in a theft case on Sunday.

Ghakkar police had arrested Malik Waqas, the suspect in a theft case, while the people, who called themselves members of lesser known political parties, Muhajir League and Aam Admi Party, blocked traffic on the GT Road in protest against the arrest.

Led by Waheed Shahzad and Arslanul Mulk, they chanted slogans against the station house officer and investigation officer, claming that police had wrongly arrested their worker and implicated him in a fake case.

The protest caused a massive jam on the road as the traffic remained suspended for about an hour.

Later, SHO Muhammad Saleem took the protestors to a nearby police checkpost on the pretext of settling the matter through talks where he registered a case against 55 protestors and arrested 21 of them, including their leaders.
