LAHORE, Nov 2: The Punjab government transferred and posted three senior police officers on Wednesday.

According to an official notification, headquarters DIG, Central Police Office, Muhammad Aslam Tareen, who has been promoted to the rank of Additional IG, has been transferred and posted welfare and finance Additional IG against an existing vacancy.

The post fell vacant after Additional IG Aftab Sultan was appointed Intelligence Bureau’s director general by the federal government in October this year.

The provincial government transferred Punjab Elite Police Force Additional IG Kalb-i-Abbas and posted him as investigation Additional IG in place of Additional IG Azam Joyia, who retired from the service a couple of days ago.

DIG Zulfikar Cheema, who had been awaiting posting for the last five months or so after the completion of a course, has been transferred and posted Punjab Elite Police Force DIG in place of Mr Abbas.

Mr Tareen has also been holding the additional charge of Establishment DIG for the last one month or so after DIG Shoaib Dastgir got an assignment at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in New York.

After Mr Tareen and Mr Cheema were given new assignments the posts of the Headquarters and Establishment DIGs fell vacant.

Sources at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat told Dawn that two senior DIGs Amjad Javed Saleemi and DIG Anwer Virk had been awaiting posting since they completed the National Management Course at National School of Public Policy, Lahore, five months ago.

The sources said two other officers — AIG (Vigilance) BA Nasir and AIG (Finance) Azeem Arshad — who had been recently promoted to the rank of DIG, were being considered for the vacant posts.

However, sources said Punjab Constabulary Farooqabad SSP Farooq Mazhar and SSP Motor Transport Mirza Shakeel Ahmad, who also got their promotions to the DIG rank recently, were not being considered for the key posts at the Central Police Office.
