LAHORE, Nov 2: A Citizen Feedback Cell, set up at the office of the Capital City Police Officer on the orders of the provincial police officer to seek feedback from citizens regarding police non-cooperation in registration of cases about a month ago, has got registered 20 cases of citizens.
The cell will submit monthly performance report to the Central Police Office for initiating action against the responsible Station House Officers and their subordinates.
A police official associated with the cell told Dawn that the cell was set up to seek feedback from citizens who visited police stations/offices for various reasons.
He said the cell had been regularly contacting citizens/complainants on their cell phones for feedback and checking response from police.
He said in the last one month it was observed that the Lahore police were not registering cases, especially properties, in time despite verification of incidents/facts in violation of the Free Registration Police 2011.
It was found that police stations delayed FIRs despite submission of applications and repeated visits by citizens to their respective police stations.
The official said the departmental action against the responsible police officials of the police stations concerned was being initiated for causing a delay in the registration of cases or non-registration of without any reason.
He said the cell team would randomly visit police stations and check ‘roznamcha’ to monitor the performance of cases.
Official statistics claim that on Oct 28 five citizens — Syed Haider Masood of Hamza Town, Yohanabad; Muhammad Jameel of Rehanpura, Muridke tehsil, Sheikhupura district; Bashir Ahmad Khan of Karool village; Dr Ghazala Fakhr of Government Maternity Hospital, Chohan Road Islampura; and Saqib Mustafa of Bakar Mandi, Nawankot — were contacted on their cell phones and were handed over their FIRs got registered by the cell.
Their complaints were regarding the motorcycle theft and the dacoity.
