Drug Free City project: ANF gives five vehicles to Lahore police

LAHORE, Nov 3: The Anti-Narcotics Force handed over on Thursday five new vehicles to the Lahore police under the Drug Free City project for effective action against drug traffickers.

ANF Director General Maj-Gen Syed Shakeel Hussain handed over the keys of five vehicles to Capital City Police Officer Malik Ahmed Raza Tahir at a ceremony held at the Drug Free City project Secretariat in Lahore Cantonment.

Speaking at the function, Mr Hussain said that every segment of society would have to play its role in capturing drug traffickers, stopping supply of narcotics, reducing the demand of drugs and for the rehabilitation and treatment of drug addicts.

Expressed his satisfaction over the achievements made under the project during the last one year, he said due to the cooperation of all federal and provincial departments and welfare organizations concerned, the special project was moving ahead properly.

Lahore Drug Free City project director Muhammad Altaf Qamar informed about the details and progress of the project launched with the cooperation of 15 federal and provincial departments.

He said that vehicles provided to the Lahore police would be available against drug traffickers in different control rooms for continuing of operations round-the-clock.

He said that 108 foreigners residing illegally in Lahore had been arrested during the last year.

Commendatory certificates were also given to FIA officials for taking prompt action against illegal migrants involved in anti-social activities in Lahore.

ANF`s Lahore Force Commander Brig Shahid Afzal, Safe Child Foundation president Shahzad Anjum Baig, representatives of Tanzeem-ul-Fajar, Ehsas for Life, Aghaz-e-Nau and other welfare organizations associated with the Lahore Drug Free City project also attended the function.
