Police put on red alert for first Friday of Ramazan

LAHORE–City police have been put on red-alert for first Friday prayers of this month as thousands of policemen would be deployed around Masajids and Imambargahs to avoid any untoward incident.

Officials said here Thursday that the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir has directed the police to keep security level at red-alert on the occasion of first Namaz-e-Juma of Ramzan-ul-Mubarik.

The CCPO also directed all the divisional SPs to make effective security arrangements for all mosques, Imam Bargahs and other religious places of the City in view of current security situation.

According to an official handout issued in this regard, he also called upon the police to create sense of protection in the hearts and minds of the citizens so that they could perform their religious duty without any fear.

In his order, Ahmad Raza Tahir also directed Security Branch to ensure proper checking through walkthrough gates and metal detectors during Juma congregations, along with ensuring parking of vehicles at a safe distance for which citizens’ cooperation should be sought.

Ahmad Raza Tahir also directed concerned SPs to make surprise and effective checking at important places, along with ensuring effective search and surveillance to bring criminal elements and terrorists under the ambit of law.

Ahamd Raza Tahir further noted that without willing cooperation of the people, security in Lahore cannot be ensured. CCPO called upon citizens to inform Lahore Police, in case they observe suspicious elements or things around them, so that the culprits can be nabbed and brought before the court of law, which will help in creating sense of protection among the masses.
