Beefed up security for Chand Raat, Eid

RAWALPINDI: Foolproof security arrangements have been directed for Mehfil-e-Shabina, Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr prayers.
 
The Rawalpindi Commissioner issued special directives to the district administration and police officers of the division that elaborate security arrangements should be made for the protection of the citizens.
 
Special duty roasters particularly of police officials should be issued, he said, adding, presence of police officials at every important place should also be ensured. The commissioner said that the staff deployed on security duty should have metal detectors. Walk-through gates should also be installed on important Mehfil-e-Shabina, and Eid prayer gatherings.
 
The commissioner directed that senior officials at tehsil level while district coordination officers (DCOs) and district police officers (DPOs) at district level should supervise the security arrangements so that no untoward incident could take place. He directed traffic police to make arrangements for the smooth flow of traffic so that citizens, especially women, does not have to face any traffic problem during Eid shopping.
 
Meanwhile, city police claimed to have made foolproof security arrangements at various shopping centres, markets and public places.
 
To ensure security of women, policewomen have also been deployed in various busy shopping malls at Tench Bhatta, Saddar Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Moti Bazaar and other busy markets of the city.
 
According to the police security plan, plainclothesmen have been deployed at various sensitive areas and closed-circuit cameras are being used to monitor different busy bazaars, parks and other public places.
 
Traffic plan: In order to avert traffic jams on city roads, City Traffic Police (CTP) is implementing a special traffic plan, especially devised for last Ashra of Ramazan.
 
A comprehensive plan to control traffic was evolved besides other arrangements made in this regard, said Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah.
 
He said traffic squads were deployed at all main intersections of the city, whereas a helpline was also set up at Race Course Traffic Office. The helpline is working 24 hour a day and providing help and assistance to the citizens.
 
The CTO said that Rawalpindi Traffic Police is striving hard and making effective measures to control one-wheeling and violation of other traffic rules.
 
He said duty timings of traffic wardens have been increased to ensure smooth traffic flow on city roads.
 
Shah said special arrangements were also made to control traffic jams so that citizens could easily reach their destinations within shortest possible time.
 
In view of security of the citizens special traffic arrangements have been made. Parking of vehicles near mosques, imambargahs and other religious places is not allowed.
 
Under the plan, traffic police officers have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on suspicious vehicles. Strict action has also been ordered against vehicles having tinted glasses or moving in the city without number plates, he added.
 
The SP said traffic wardens were also directed to work with dedication and commitment and ensure smooth traffic flow so that traffic jams, particularly on congested roads could be averted. Under the traffic plan, all-out efforts are being made by city traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic on city roads mainly at and around the time of Iftar, he added.
 
The traffic officers have also been instructed to take strict action against one-wheelers without discrimination and spare no one if found involved in this dangerous act. APP
