Ulema urged to promote harmony during Muharram

SIALKOT/Faisalabad/MUZAFFARGARH - Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Capt (r) Muhammad Ameen and district coordination officers separately urged the Ulema to shun their differences to ensure peace during Muharram, and said that miscreants would be dealt with sternly especially during the holy month.

"No one would be allowed to sabotage peaceful atmosphere in the region," he stated while addressing a meeting with Ulema belonging to all schools of thought. Sialkot DPO Afzaal Ahmed Kausar, SP (Investigation) Sarfraz Khan and members of Sialkot District Peace Committee were also present.

The RPO said that police were making an all-out effort to provide security to the people. He said that religious harmony is need of the hour to resolve the problems being faced by the Ummah. He stated that extraordinary measures had been taken to protect processions and rallies to be taken out at various places. He added that all the officials concerned had been directed to do their job honestly. He added that Ulema had been asked to avoid furious speeches and preach tolerance and patience to promote harmony, brotherhood, unity and peace.

The RPO also urged the people to seek inspiration from sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and fight against tyranny, dictatorship and terrorism, to put the country on the path of progress and development. He said at Karbala, the offspring of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and their companions made sacrifices to uphold the golden principles of Islam against anti-Islam elements.

The RPO revealed that the incident of Karbala is remembered as a historic event that set an example of making sacrifice for upholding truth and principles. Jihad fought by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) along with his companions is a bright example of courage, patience perseverance and determination. He said, "Ashoora gives us a message of not to hesitate from making any sacrifice for upholding the principles of truthfulness and Islamic values. He added that the Muslim Ummah today is passing through a difficult phase and confronting problems and challenges like terrorism.

He said that the Ummah needs the spirit of Karbala, and added that with spirit of sacrifice and unflinching determination the Muslims can overcome all difficulties. He narrated that the best way to pay tributes to the martyrs of Karbala was to make commitment on this day to work and devote oneself for the development and strength of the country.
