Gang smashed

LAHORE–Police investigators on Wednesday claimed to have smashed a gang of dacoits by arresting its eight members involved in several house and road robberies, they had committed in different district of the Punjab province.

According to police, SSP (Investigations) Babar Bakhat Qureshi constituted a special police team headed by SP CIA and comprising DSP Cantonment Khalid Abu Bakar and other officials to track down the gang.

The police team collected particulars of the gang involved in the house robberies and arrested its members including the ringleader. The police also recovered cash and valuables worth Rs 1.35 million from their possession besides illegal weapons.

Police said that the arrested criminals used to gain access into the residences by impersonating them as the Rangers, Police or SNGPL officers. They held up the inmates at gung point and escaped after collecting cash and valuables in several hits.

The police nabbed the criminals on a tip-off. The arrested bandits were identified Salman Zahid alias Niazi, the ringleader, Shamshad, Nasir, Amjad, Imran, Abbas, Imran and Adem Chaudhary. The criminals had shot at and injured many citizens and police officials as well on putting up resistance during the armed robberies. During interrogation, the bandits confessed to 21 cases of robberies that they had committed in various areas of the City besides in Faisalabad and Okara districts.

DIG Investigation, Chaudhary Shafique Ahmed, has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team.
