Bid to blow up gasline foiled; 3 held

RAHIMYAR KHAN: Police on Sunday foiled an attempt to blow up the main gas pipeline near Bhong by arresting three accused and recovered 9kg explosive material from them.Addressing a press conference in his office, DPO Soliail Zafar Chattha said that a heavy contingent of police team headed by Sadiqabad ASP Zeeshan Shafiq, on a tip-off, raided Head Fazilwa, in Bhong area. Seeing police, the outlaws opened fire at the police, he claimed.

After a brief encounter, the police succeeded in arresting three terrorists, identified as Ramzan, Mewa and Pehar, and recovered 9kg explosive material, three remote control, three detonators, three pistols with live rounds and other devices from their possession, he added. However, he added, their two accomplices managed to escape.

The outlaws, belonging to Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), were planning to blow up the main gas supply pipeline, the DPO claimed. He disclosed that the outlaws were involved in blowing up gas pipelines in Rohjan, Rukanpur and Abbaspur areas. During preliminary interrogation, the terrorists had confessed that they had blown up gas pipelines at Mauza Rangpur and Abbaspur on Feb 9, 2014, causing suspension of gas supply to Punjab, eth DPO maintained.

The DPO disclosed that some employees of the Sui gas company were also involved in abetting the terrorists and they would soon be arrested. A case had been registered against the outlaws under the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO), the DPO added.
