7,000 POs arrested in last three months

LAHORE: Lahore police claimed to have arrested 7,000 proclaimed offenders and court absconder during last three months. The police sources said on Sunday the police have smashed 395 dacoit gangs and arrested their 700 members and recovered stolen property worth Rs 6.5 millions from their possession.

During the operations against narcotics sellers police have arrested 2005 drug peddlers during different raids and recovered 82 kg heroin, 500 kg hashish, 21 kg opium and 25,358 bottles of liquor from their possession. The police also smashed 64 gangs of criminals and arrested their 169 members and 292 cases were traced against them during the same period.

Moreover, 179 cases were registered against gamblers and 571 accused were arrested besides recovering stake money more than Rs 300,000. During the special crackdown, 313 cases were registered against 350 culprits on the violation of law. Lahore CCPO Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad appreciated the performance of the officials of investigations and operations wings to arrest 7,000 POs. He asked them to perform their duty more efficiency and continue crackdown against the criminals to eliminate crimes in the provincial capital.
