SPs told to ensure NAP enforcement

LAHORE: The capital city police officer has directed all divisional superintendents to take special measures for the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP).
 
CCPO Amin Wains said search operations should be conducted against terrorists and anti-social elements on a daily basis in all the divisions.
 
He said Lahore police brought booked 52 people in 41 cases for violation of Loudspeaker Act and Tenancy Law during such operations last week.
 
He said particulars, including identity cards of 1,900 students were checked during search and sweep operations in eight seminaries of different religious schools of thought. The managements of seminaries were warned against enrolling any student without verification of documents, he added. The seminaries also were issued letters for improving their security, he said.
 
Police arrested 168 proclaimed offenders and court absconders during raids in different areas of the city during such operations.
 
During search operation, hotels, inns, guest houses, Lorri Adda and other bus stands were checked and 55 suspects were taken into custody from there. After interrogation,
 
39 of these suspects were released while action was taken against 16 for not having complete identification documents.
 
Two cases were registered for violation of Foreigners Act and the suspects were sent to jail on court orders.
 
The police have also taken action against drug pushers and arrested 67 suspects with registration of 360 cases against them. Police also seized liquor, 36kg hashish, 28kg bhang and 1.5kg heroin.
 
Similarly, police arrested 42 accused for possessing illegal arms and recovered 37 pistols and mousers, 22 rifles and guns and more than 1,200 bullets and cartridges. Police also arrested 34 gamblers and recovered valuables and stake money.
