51 gangs busted, 113 members arrested in July: Police

LAHORE: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 113 members of 51 gangs of robbers in July and recovered cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs22.4 million.
 
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rana Ayyaz Saleem, of the investigation wing, in an informal meeting with reporters said under the Nation Action Plan (NAP) 113 members of 51 gangs involved in dacoity, robbery, theft and murder cases had been arrested by investigation police during July.
 
He said looted items, including cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs22.4 million, with a large cache of illegal weapons were recovered from their possession.
 
The gangs busted included Qasim alias Niku, Irfan alias Chita, Babar alias Babri, Ghulam Rasool alias Sula, Fiaz alias Baga, Waqas alias Wiqi, Abu Bakar alias Gunga, Ibrar alias Khidu, Javed alias Bodhi, Zeeshan alias Langri and others.
 
The SSP said out of these 113 arrested, 63 were hardcore criminals and history-sheeters. The suspects formed gangs in prisons and started their activities after release from jail.
 
He further said the suspects had confessed to more than 346 crimes of heinous nature across the city.
 
Police also recovered stolen and snatched items from their possession, including cash, cars, motorcycles, auto rickshaws, mobile phones, gold jewellery and other valuables, besides a large number of weapons.
 
The SSP said all investigation in-charges had been directed to smash the network of such gangs, especially those involved in car and motorcycle thefts.
 
He said special teams of anti-car lifting staff were keeping a watchful eye on entry and exit points of the city.
