LAHORE  - Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Amin Wains has said that following the posting of Admin Officers in the police stations of the provincial metropolis, the appointment of computer operators is a revolutionary step to reform and reshape the policing.
 
He also said that the basic purpose of establishment of Computerized Complaint Handling Centers (CHC) and posting of civilians staff at 10 selected police stations of Lahore is to create soft image of the law enforcement agency.
 
The Lahore police chief expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of the cabinet division held at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Wednesday.
 
DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP Ayaz Saleem, SP CIA Muhammad Umer Virk, SP Headquarters Umer Saeed and other concerned officers were also present on this occasion.
 
As a pilot project, the Lahore police are all set to introduce fundamental changes in the policing by providing pleasant atmosphere to the visitors, quick response on public complaints, and immediate registration of criminal cases.
 
Muhammad Amin Wains further said that the appointment of computer operators along with admin officers would help improve police image besides promoting good behavior in police stations.
 
He said that initially computer operators are being appointed in 10 police stations.
 
They would keep complete records of the visitors at the police station by registering their visitors’ names, addresses, contact numbers, and even purpose of visit.
 
The concerned DSPs and SHOs would be bound to take action on the complaints within 24 hours.
 
He also ordered the officers to register FIR of dacoity, robbery, and theft within 24 hours.
 
The CCPO also appreciated the performance of admin officer of Defense-A police station and awarded him cash prize.
He further said that internet connections were being provided in model police stations so that the officers could keep themselves aware of the issues and problems of the complainants.
 
He said that local protection committees and reconciliatory committees are also constituted to reduce the gap between public and police.
 
On this occasion, DIG (Operations) said that a complaint cell at high level would be established for the complainants to register their complaints online by call, SMS, email and social network websites.
 
The officers would send feedback to the complainants after solving these problems. Under the pilot project, 10 police stations are selected which included Gulberg, Baghbanpura, North Cantonment, South Cantonment, Mustafabad, Model Town, Sarwar Road, and Defense-A, B, and C police stations.
 
According to a police officer, at least 22 vehicles, 108 motorcycles, 76 wireless sets and 34 Barriers have been provided at these complaint handling centers, which would work in two shifts.
 
The first shift will work from 9:00am to 5:00pm and the second one will work 4:00pm to 11:00pm.
The staff of these centers will be assisted by Admin officers.
 
The CHC staff will be responsible to ensure immediate registration of FIRs and the complainants would be issued computerized slips with details about their investigation officer for future references. An officer of the rank of SP will look after the administrative matters of the staff of CHC.
