50 suspects detained in search operation

LAHORE: On the instructions of CCPO Ch Shafiq Gujjar, the search operation is continuing in all divisions of Lahore police.

The Civil Lines division police in the search operation during the last two days, checked 15 seminaries, 40 hotels, 24 hostels, 55 godowns, 47 workshops, 21 factories, 317 houses and shops and questioned more than 1,200 persons.

The police took 350 persons into their custody and 300 of them were released later after investigation and production of documents. Fifty suspects are being interrogated as they could not prove their identity.

According to a press release issued on Thursday by the CCPO office, various police teams headed by SP Civil Lines Umer Riaz Cheema carried out search operation in the areas of Racecourse, Qila Gujjar Singh, Garhi Shahu, Old Anarkali, Mozang, Chauburji, Jainmandar, Lytton Road, Shalimar, Gujjarpura, China Scheme, Mughalpura, Dars Baray Mian, Bhogi Wall, Singhpura, Alia Town, Shabbir Town, Karol Ghati, Dhobi Ghat, Sitara Colony, Sharif Colony and Nazim Abad.

Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to 113 landlords who had not submitted particulars of their tenants to provide the required information to the police within three days.

When contacted over complaints of misbehaviour and harassment of citizens during search operation, a spokesman for Lahore police said that the operation was being carried out following the information provided by secret agencies and to tighten the noose around criminal elements. He said action would be taken against the police officials who would misbehave with the law-abiding citizens.
