LAHORE–Following court orders, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir has warned that the policemen found involved in using lead pencil to register FIRs will not be spared.

He told this reporter on Thursday that that use of lead pencil is already and strictly banned in the police station for registration of FIRs. He said that the police had also been directed not to use lead pencil for reporting in Roze Namcha-Register as the use of only ballpoint pens is allowed. He also said that stern action would be taken against delinquent police officials in this regard.

The CCPO has also directed all the divisional SPs to monitor the police record and registers placed in police stations. He said that the policemen found involved in this practice would not only be suspended but strict legal action would be taken against them.
On Wednesday, District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem put a ban on the use of lead pencil in police stations to stop possible changes in FIRs and implication of persons after registration of cases.

The judge issued a directive in this regard and ordered all police stations to write FIRs with ballpoint pens instead of lead pencils. The judge issued these orders after he came to know some police stations used lead pencils to write FIRs in order to allow officials to make changes and implicate people as per their need. Police sources said that the senior officers, in the past, had already imposed complete ban on the use of lead pencil for writing FIRs in the police station. Now even, the use of lead pencil is banned for writing Roze Namcha, the police register that maintains record of daily working of the police officials.
