Valencia shootout: suspects in custody

LAHORE, May 9: Police on Wednesday took a few suspects, including a woman, into custody in connection with the killing of three Karachi-based target killers in Tuesday’s police encounters.
 
The encounters which took place in Valencia Town and nearby Mohafiz Town also left two police constables killed and another injured.
 
Kahna police registered two cases under sections 302, 324, 353, 186 of Pakistan Penal Code and 13/20/65 of the Arms Ordinance.
 
A senior police investigator told Dawn that deceased Alamgir, Asif and Abbas were part of the 14-member gang run by woman Aasia who was close to a gang operating in Lyari.
 
He said the gang, who had been operating for the last two years in Lahore, committed kidnap for ransom in the city. He said around 20 incidents of kidnap for ransom and robbery were committed by the suspects in the provincial capital.
 
He said the police also seized fake number plates of Sindh and Punjab, half sack of plastic-manufactured handcuffs and four rolls of duck tape from the house the suspects had obtained on rent in Valencia Town.
 
The investigator said the suspects also travelled abroad as passports seized from the house carried visa stamps of different countries.
 
FUNERAL: Funeral prayers for constables Asadullah of Jaranwala and Muhammad Irshaad of Gujranwala were offered at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines which were attended by IG Aftab Sultan and senior police officers.
 
The government would release Rs3 million for each deceased.
