Forensic lab to help curb crime: Shahbaz

LAHORE: CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the most modern forensic lab of South Asia is being set up in Lahore which will help in curbing crimes in the country, especially in Punjab, bringing criminals to book, investigating heinous crimes on scientific lines and provision of justice to the masses

He stated this while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of implementation of the project of setting up forensic lab in the provincial metropolis here on Tuesday.

The chief minister said setting up of the Forensic Science Agency was an important and unique project of its kind for which not only arrangements were made for the training of master trainers from abroad but most modern equipment was also being installed.

Issuing instructions for selecting the best scientists and staff for the forensic lab, he asked the Forensic Science Agency director general to choose the most competent persons and disregard all influence and pressure as he would be completely independent in the selection of candidates.

He also issued instructions for setting up of a committee, headed by the chief secretary, to review the pace of work on the project on a weekly basis for its early completion. Earlier, Forensic Science Agency Director General Dr Tahir Ashraf gave a briefing to the meeting on the project.

The chief secretary, secretary home, project director and officers concerned were present.

Transparency: Shahbaz Sharif has said corruption and misappropriation of funds in development projects has now become history and the present government has not only turned the graveyards of corruption of former government into monuments of development but also promoted the culture of transparency in the execution of development schemes.

Talking to assembly members of various districts here Tuesday, he said the government was custodian of every penny of public money and timely and transparent completion of all development projects was being ensured so that people could benefit from them as early as possible.

Shahbaz said a special package had been announced for the benefit of fasting people in the present era of price hike and provision of quality essential items to people at the fixed rates through Ramazan Bazaars, fair price shops and model bazaars was being ensured throughout the province.

He said not only monitoring teams had been set up but a special cabinet committee, headed by Zulfiqar Khosa, was also monitoring prices and availability of consumer items to people on a daily basis. He stressed asked elected representatives to visit Ramazan Bazaars for ensuring provision of essential items to the people at the fixed rates.

The CM said solid measures had been taken for the uplift of education sector for equipping the youth with the latest knowledge while the project of mobile hospitals had been started for providing modern health facilities to people of backward areas at their doorstep.

He said mobile hospitals would be provided at all tehsil headquarters under a phased programme and 50 hospitals were being acquired this year.

He said various projects had been started for elimination of unemployment, including provision of soft-term loans and Yellow Cab scheme for enabling the educated youth stand on their own feet.

He said that Ashiana Housing Scheme was unique with regard to its speed and transparency. He said that allotment of all houses and their numbers in the first Ashiana scheme at Saroba Atari in Lahore had been made through balloting and the same transparent method would be adopted for allotment of houses in other districts as well.
