10,000 to guard I-Day functions

LAHORE–Capital City Police Officer Ahmad Raza Tahir has said that more than 10,000 policemen will be deployed across the provincial metropolis to ensure foolproof security during Independence Day celebrations. According to the police report, more than 50 functions and rallies would be held on this occasion and the police have finalized the security arrangements in this regard.

The CCPO issued instructions for stern action against the motorcyclists involved in one wheeling or riding the motorcycles without silencers. Ahmad Raza Tahir directed that youth engaged in hooliganism should not be spared and special teams should be formed to take action against the persons pestering the citizens or indulging in negative activities.

According to a police spokesman, in this connection, a meeting of senior police officers was held here at CCPO office on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Ahmad Raza Tahir in which security and traffic arrangements were reviewed in detail for Independence Day. Tahir said that in view of the prevalent situation, Lahore Police have been put on high alert, while effective security measures have been adopted for the Independence Day. The CCPO directed Lahore Police to make foolproof security arrangements in the provincial metropolis on the occasion of Independence Day and take strict action against the elements taking law in their own hand or indulging in hooliganism. On orders of CCPO, special teams have been constituted for taking immediate action against those involved in one wheeling and control rooms have been established in the offices of Divisional SPs in addition to the central control room to cope with any emergency. He directed all SPs to keep a watchful eye on the activities of anti-social elements. He said that strict vigilance should be maintained at bus and wagon stands, trade and business centres, hotels as well as entry and exit points of the city. Similarly, unclaimed vehicles and items should also be checked. The CCPO said that traffic wardens, Mohafiz force, mobile squads, elite force as well as SHOs will adopt strict measures in their respective areas to curb negative activities. The CCPO said that special security plan has been evolved for maintaining smooth traffic flow on August 14.

Chief Traffic Officer, while apprising about salient features of traffic plan in the meeting, informed the CCPO that important roads have been identified and effective measures have also been taken to maintain smooth traffic flow and traffic police will work in two shifts on August 13 and 14 in this connection. The meeting was informed that ten mobile canteens will work for providing timely food to the officials deployed on duty. Ahmad Raza Tahir appealed to the citizens to extend whole-hearted cooperation to the Lahore Police for implementation of traffic plan and maintenance of law and order and also keep a watchful eye on suspicious persons around them. He also appealed to the parents to advise their children to desist from one-wheeling on the occasion of August 14. The CCPO made it clear that he would also pay surprise visits personally to various places to review security arrangements in this regard. Tahir said that every officer and Jawan of Lahore Police should make solemn pledge on Independence Day that he will leave no stone unturned for ensuring quality public service to citizens and eradicating crimes from the society.
