Six criminals arrested

LAHORE, Oct 9: CIA police claim to have arrested six criminals involved in firing in the court of the additional district and sessions judge, murder of a lawyer and wife and daughter of a lawyer of the high court, and recovered illegal weapons from their possession.
 
This was disclosed by DIG (Investigation) Zulfiqar Hameed at a press conference at his office on Wednesday.
 
According to a press release, the DIG said firing incident in the court and murder of a lawyer and another’s relatives had created unrest among lawyers and judges. Special CIA teams had been constituted to arrest the criminals involved in these cases.
 
He said a team of CIA Cantonment arrested Imran Mughal involved in the murder of lawyer Zain Ghafar, while another accused nominated in the FIR had already been arrested in Gujranwala.
 
During interrogation, Mughal confessed to killing Ghaffar following a dispute over a piece of land on Gujranwala bypass.
 
The CIA Civil Lines arrested four proclaimed offenders involved in firing in the court of additional district and sessions judge in which two people, Nisar Ahmed and Jamat Ali, were killed and Rizwan Zafar and Arshad seriously injured.
 
The Lahore High Court chief justice had taken suo motu notice of the incident. Those arrested were identified as Muhammad Shahbaz, Sadam Husain, Muhammad Iqbal and Tahir alias Tara.
 
During interrogation, the accused confessed to murdering the two men over an enmity. After being declared proclaimed offenders the accused became desperate and had started collecting extortion from people after threatening them and getting property documents signed at gunpoint.
 
A team of CIA Sadar arrested Anees for his alleged involvement in the murder of the wife and daughter of Advocate Shahid Husain of the high court.
 
During interrogation, the accused revealed that his wife was a maid at the house of Shahid Husain a year ago because of which he had information about the place. He said he planned to rob the house but the lawyer’s wife resisted that forced him to open fire, killing Tahira and Tahreem Shahid.
 
The DIG (investigation) said regarding three meetings of the joint investigation team had taken place in the Sumbal rape case and hopefully the culprits would be arrested soon.
 
He denied using third degree torture on suspects in the case and said the latest technology was being used in the investigation of the case.
