Two arrested for killing widow for property

LAHORE: Iqbal Town Crimes Investigation Agency claims to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of the widow of a film director and killing a property dealer Barkat Ali for Rs2.5million.

Police also recovered murder weapon and a vehicle used in the crime along with its bogus number plates.

According to a handout issued on Tuesday, a police team headed by CIA DSP Riaz Shah, investigating murder of Mohnia Mumtaz, widow of film director Mumtaz Khan, came to know that the victim had set up a marriage bureau in Moon Market, Iqbal Town and was also running a beauty parlour and a boutique.

The victim’s son informed police on November 8, 2013 that his mother who went to her office in the morning did not return.

During investigation it was disclosed that Amanat Ali was a frequent visitor to Mohnia Mumtaz’s office. In the light of the information, Amanat was called for interrogation but he got an interim bail. After cancellation of the bail, the accused was interrogated. He confessed to have killed Mohnia for her property.

Amanat told police that he had developed relations with Mohnia who wanted to marry him but he was more interested in her daughter. He said that he abducted Mohnia and forced her to transfer her property or marry her daughter to him, but she refused.

Upon her refusal, Amanat killed Mohnia with the help of Muhammad Ali and threw her body at a desolate place. Muhammad Ali was also arrested. Later, the accused also killed a property dealer, Barkat Ali, of Chunian over a monetary dispute and threw his body in front of a government office.

Police are conducting raids for arrest of two other men -- Aslam and Altaf – who were also allegedly involved in the crime.
