LAHORE: Following Sunday’s deadly assault on Jinnah international airport in Karachi, the law enforcing agencies are put on high-alert in the provincial metropolis. Police are searching every nook and corner of the City especially airport surroundings and the residential localities around key government installations.
The interior ministry has also asked the Punjab government to step up security around important locations including airport, prisons, and, police headquarters.
Police sources revealed that hundreds of cops are taking part in the campaign launched to hunt down suspected elements particularly foreign nationals. A police spokesman said on Wednesday that special search operations were launched across the metropolis on the orders of Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed to unearth suspected persons, especially outsiders.
Lahore DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar has been personally monitoring this campaign while all the divisional SPs and more than 2000 cops are taking part in the crackdown. Heavy police contingents are deployed around the Lahore airport while several surprise pickets are set up across the provincial metropolis to intercept the movement of suspected persons.
Police sources further said that the policemen searched many seminaries, hotels, and inns, workshops and houses located in the different parts of Lahore since Sunday. The Lahore police also observed hours-long general hold-up in various parts of the City to check the movement of criminals and militants.
Cops are conducting late night search operations against suspected elements in Lahore after intelligence inputs indicated militants were planning terror assaults in Punjab.
“Police are put on high-alert and search operations are underway in the sensitive areas. Police patrolling has also been intensified around the key government installations,” Lahore Operations police chief, DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar told The Nation on Wednesday.
Police are conducting search operations in the wake of intelligence reports to tighten the screws on the criminals and militants, he added.
