LAHORE–Introducing the first training policy, Additional IG Training Punjab Police Sarmad Saeed Khan Wednesday said the policy will ensure standardisation of police courses, training institutes, trainers, trainees, course contents and learning environment.
Giving media briefing at Police Headquarters Punjab (PHQ), he said the new policy will compete the international standards and will also ensure conducive learning environment in all Police Training schools/colleges of Punjab.
Sarmad Saeed said: “We also proposed that the training curricula has to be modified based on Training Needs Assessment (TNA) according to the specific requirements of the trainees considering their job descriptions; along with that there was a need to sensitize trainees on the issues of fundamental Human Rights making the police officers responsive to the distinct needs of men, women, boys and girls citizens without any discrimination or bias”.
To a query, the Addl IGP said that the training policy also proposed regular review and revision of trainings in order to improve all aspects of police training, to ensure improvement of policing services provided to the citizens; the promotion of an attitude of mutual respect and dignity among the trainers and trainees during trainings that will reflect in their public dealings, to build a culture of respect in Punjab Police.
He said that high ups had also encouraged training of trainers’ programmes throughout the police colleges/schools to ensure adequate training skills and attitudes in police trainers; un qualified trainers would not be allowed to train police trainees; The Punjab police training policy will ensure gender responsive policing practices and make Punjab Police a model for other Police organisations of Pakistan.
In the end, he thanked Dr Khola Iram Principal Advisor Gender Responsive Policing Project, a joint venture of the National Police Bureau and GIZ (the German Agency for International Cooperation) for their support without which it could be very difficult to materialise the Punjab Police Training Policy into a reality.
Additional IG Research & Development Punjab Malik Khuda Bakhsh Awan, AIG Training Raja Riffat and SSP Farooq Mazhar also graced the ceremony with their presence.
