Gangs of robbers, liquor unit busted in Kahna

LAHORE: Kahna police claim to have busted two gangs of robbers, arrested a motorcycle thief and unearthed a unit producing moonshine – fake liquor – in the last two days.
 
Kahna circle ASP Syed Qarar Shah said his team arrested five members of Imtiaz alias Pooma Dogar gang -- Amanat, Rafaqat, Sajid, Aman and Faheem -- and recovered from them Rs5,000, two snatched motorcycles, six cell phones and four illegal weapons.
 
He claimed the suspects, who belonged to Kasur district, had been involved in several dacoities and robberies. Ringleader Imtiaz and his accomplice Manzoor were still at large.The ASP said Kahna police had also captured Tahir, Athar, Sajid and Azizur Rehman of Hanif alias Pooma gang involved in robberies and snatchings.
 
Police recovered from them several cell phones and five illegal weapons. Ringleader Hanif and Shahid Jutt were absconding.
 
He said the Kahna police also captured a motorcycle lifter Ali Haider and recovered a stolen motorcycle from him. Haider confessed to stealing three other motorcycles.
ASP Shah said Kot Lakhpat police arrested Rafique Masih, Sunny James, Siddique Masih and Babar Masih and confiscated a liquor-producing unit in Awami Colony.
 
He said Sunny was an employee of a Lahore-based local news channel and police also seized an office ID card from his house.
 
The local police also took Kashif, Mumtaz and Shahbaz into custody from outside Lahore General Hospital and seized 25 bogus driving licences from them. The suspects, who worked in Model Town courts, prepared fake licences in connivance with government officials, the ASP claimed.
