CM orders IGP to set up 100 model police stations

LAHORE: PUNJAB Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday directed the inspector general of police (IGP) to declare 100 police stations across the province, including 20 in the provincial metropolis, model police stationsto facilitate citizens. It is learnt that the following police stations in the provincial metropolis would be declared model police stations: Iqbal Town, Sattukatla, Johar Town, Sabzazar, Sandha, Shahdara, Baghbanpura, Gulberg, Nishtor Colony, Ichhara, Mughalpura, Shadbagh, Raiwind, Chung, Nawakot, Lytton Road, Bhatti Gate, Mochi Gate, Lower Mall and Defence-A.

One car, 10 motorbikes and one telephone line will be given to each of the model stations. Lahore CCPO Malik Ahmad Raza Tahir said that model police stations would help curb crime in the City. It is worth mentioning here the Punjab chief minister had directed IGP Javed Iqbal in January 2011 to declare one police station a model police station in each district of the province to improve the image of police among the masses. The Lahore CCPO and DPOs could not establish even a single such police station till November 2011.

The IGP told this correspondent that the idea had been changed and it had been decided to revamp police structure through a five-year plan which would be accomplished at Rs 25 billion. Now once again the CM has directed the IGP to establish 100 model stations to facilitate the masses.
