Six dacoits held with Rs38 million export

BAHAWALPUR - The district police claimed to have busted an inter-province gang of dacoits and recovered a container loaded with looted carpets worth Rs38 million and also arrested six members of the gang.

District Police Officer Habib Tajik and owner of the shipment announced cash prizes for the raiding police team. The DPO said that the gang had been committing highway robberies for a few months. The outlaws snatched the truck loaded with carpet. The consignment was to be exported to Italy by an importer of Lahore.

The police also seized illegal weapons including a rifle and 4 pistols from their possession. The DPO said that the arrested persons had admitted a number of other dacoities on highways wherein they snatched chemicals, oil, fertilisers etc. They used to store the loot at warehouses built at Kehror Pacca in Lodhran, Alipur of Muzzafergarh and Tarand Muhammad Pannah of Rahim Yar Khan.

The consignment owner announced cash prizes including Rs150,000 cash for DSP Saddar, Rs120,000 for SHO Musafir Khana, Rs80,000 for Sub Inspector Rafiq and Rs30,000 for the five constables included in the raiding team. The Bahawalpur Police also launched an operation in Tibba Badar Sher under the supervision of the SP investigation and arrested many suspects in the area.
