40 criminals of 11 gangs arrested

SAHIWAL, Aug 19: The district police claimed to have traced and captured 40 criminals of 11 inter-district gangs and recovered cash, jewellery, bikes, vehicles and illegal weapons from their possession during the last three months.
DPO’ Rana Ayaz Mahmood told reporters here on Friday these gangs were operative in  districts of Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Vehari, Khanewal, Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Karachi and Peshawar.

He said the police recovered Rs1.6 million in cash, 22tola gold, 20 motorcycles, four tractors, five buffaloes, 19 cell phones, 25 pistols of 30 bore, four guns of 12 bore and one pump action gun from the arrested criminals.

The DPO said four of the 11 members of the Ghafoor Changer gang were arrested by the Yousafwala police.
He said the arrested accused, Ghafoor Changer (ringleader), Anwar, Ashraf and Arif, had confessed to have stolen six tractors from different localities.

He said the Dera Rahim police arrested seven members of the Dr Yasin gang which was involved in snatching motorcycles and cell phones. Police recovered 10 motorcycles from ringleader DR Yasin, Akmal, Ajmal, Ghulam Ghous, Hameed, Munir Arain, Asghar Joya, Sarang and Abdul Hameed. The arrested gangsters admitted they had snatched 25 motorcycles from Civil Hospital and District Courts.

The DPO said the Rana Aftab gang was involved in car snatching crime. They snatched cars from different localities in Punjab and Karachi and then sold them in tribal areas.

Harrapa SHO Mahmoodul Hasan arrested six members of the gang who confessed to have snatched 40 cars from different people.
The DPO said the Yasin gang was run by Yasin Jinder. The gang was involved in stealing buffaloes and goats.

Dera Rahim police arrested its six members. Yasin Jinder, Amanat Dhundi, Usman, Ali Ahmed, Nasir and Ahmed Ali, and seized three buffalos.

Farid Town SHO Qalbe Abbas said police arrested two members Fazi and Asad of the Fayzan alias Fazi gang. The gang was involved in robberies in Farid Town. He said 13 robbery cases were registered against the gang.

The DPO said the Afzal Mashi gang was involved in robberies in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Sahiwal. Police arrested ringleader Afzal Mashi and his four accomplices.

Ghalla Mandi police arrested all the three members of the Afzal gang which was mostly involved in robberies and dacoities.
Yousafwala police rounded up five members of the Ghulam Murtaza gang which was involved in kidnap for ransom incidents in Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad districts.

Harrapa police arrested three members of the Waris Maslee gang involved in cattle-lifting incidents.
Shah Kot police arrested 14 members of the Iqbal gang. The gangsters were involved in dacoities in Sahiwal, Vehari, Khanewal and Pakpattan.

The eleventh gang was run by Ramzan. Chichawatni Saddar police arrested Ramzan and his nine members.
