Police system to be put on modern lines: Shahbaz

LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated on Monday that maintenance of law and order and provision of justice to the masses was the priority of the government, for which radical police reforms were being introduced.
 
Shahbaz, addressing a meeting of senior police officials here, said negotiations were being held with Turkey and Britain for equipping the police department with modern technology, through a training programme.
 
He said necessary funds would be provided for this purpose as the government was making determined efforts to preserve peace and tranquility in society.
 
The chief minister said police system was being reformed in order to provide prompt and inexpensive justice to people that would also reduce the crime rate.
 
The meeting was attended by the Punjab home secretary, Punjab Police chief, other senior police officers and British expert Dr Amanat.
 
The meeting was given a detailed briefing regarding establishment of command and control system in Lahore as well as other major cities in the province.
