Foolproof steps to protect shrines, Imambargahs

LAHORE–Capital City Police Officer Ahmad Raza Tahir has said maintenance of law and order is the basic condition for ensuring social and economic progress.

He said that better coordination between police and members of the peace committee could help resolve multiple security related problems. He said that Peace Committees had been established in every areas of the City to make foolproof arrangement for protection of all shrines and Imambargahs situated in the provincial metropolis.

He also suggested the committees to ensure that surveillance cameras are installed at all religious places while parking stands are set up well away from the Imambargahs and shrines. CCPO said that notables of the area and police officers are included in peace committees which have decided proper scanning and screening of the devotees visiting the shrines. Ahmed Raza Tahir stated this while talking to a 10-members delegation of District Peace Committee, which called on him at his office here on Monday.

SSP Discipline & Inspection Shariq Kamal, SSP Admn Tariq Abbas Qureshi, Director Public Relations (DPR) Rai Nazar Hayat, SP Security Jawad Qamar, SP Civil Lines Umer Saeed, SP City Anwar Khetran and DSP Islampura Shakeel Ahmed were also present on this occasion.

CCPO directed Lahore Police to ensure propagation of comprehensive community policing and ordered all SPs to keep a close liaison with the notables and public representatives of the area for which regular meeting should be held.

CCPO appealed to the Ulema to restrict the use of loudspeakers to the worship places and emphasis on peace, unity and solidarity among the people.

Meanwhile, the City’s Operations police have finalised elaborate security arrangements for Christmas celebrations to ensure peace and tranquility on this occasion.

The City’s Operations Police Chief G.M Dogar supervised a special security meeting held at his office on Monday and issued necessary directions in this regard.

He said that the foolproof arrangements have been finalised to guard around 450 churches in the provincial capital as over 2000 policemen would be deputed at various points, churches and other sensitive spots.
