Oct 02, 2015
SAHIWAL: The district police claim to have arrested three youngsters who were involved in stabbing women in Sahiwal and Chichawatni for the last 16 months.

Panic was spread in Chichawatni city when incidents of stabbing of women came to the fore 16 months ago.

More than two dozen women had been stabbed and injured in different localities of Sahiwal during the last three weeks.

District Police Officer Muhammad Baqir Raza, while speaking to Dawn, confirmed capturing three youngsters and said the police recovered surgical blades, gloves, two pistols and other sharp-edged tools.

On Wednesday, the Sahiwal police on their Facebook page uploaded pictures of the three youngsters they claimed to have arrested in the stabbing case but did not share information with the media despite requests.

Police confirmed arrests only by midnight.

The DPO said the police were investigating the suspects who had confessed to their crime but they neither released names of the arrested youngsters nor did they allow the media to have their footage.

He said the police would share more details with the media in the next two to three days.

Earlier, the district police had announced Rs200,000 for one who would provide information about the gang.

The DPO in his message claimed that the police had smashed the gang and people, especially women, need not worry while moving around public places.

The stab-and-run case had become quite a challenge for the Sahiwal police due to many reasons. More than four dozen cases appeared in Chichawatni but very few of these were reported. In Sahiwal, only two women reported the matter to police.

SP Investigation Riffat Bokhari met several injured women and asked them to report cases in their respective police stations but only two women showed up and lodged complaints with the Farid Town police station.
