Kidnappers’ gang smashed

LAHORE, May 24: Investigation police claim to have arrested a gang involved in kidnap of a second-year student from Chuhng area, and recovered the victim.
 
The police also arrested a gang including two women who had kidnapped a student from Muslim Town area for Rs3 million ransom and later killed him.
 
DIG Investigation Chaudhry Zulfiqar Hameed told the media at Qila Gujjar Singh on Friday that FSc student Hamza Afzal was kidnapped from EME Society on May 21 when he was returning home from his friend’s place at Bahria Town.
 
He said Shahbaz, Arshad, Wakeel and Zakaullah took Hamza to a far-off place and demanded Rs2 million ransom from his father, Dr Muhammad Afzal. A deal was finalised with the kidnappers who freed Hamza after getting Rs1 million.
 
A police team under the supervision of CIA SP Khalid Masood managed to arrest Shahbaz, Arshad and Wakeel and recovered ransom money as well as the car and weapon used in the crime.
 
Raids were being conducted for the arrest of their accomplice, Zakaullah.
 
As for the second incident, Zulfiqar Hameed said Waseem had kidnapped second-year student Irfan Akbar for ransom from Muslim Town with the help of a woman, Alia Bibi. They took Irfan to a rented room in Muslim Town area and chopped off his head with a hammer.
 
The investigation police used modern methods and traced the gang through the telephone calls made by them. During interrogation, they confessed their crime.
 
Answering a question about the escape of a murder accused from Mayo Hospital, Zulfiqar Hameed said action had already been taken against the police officials who showed negligence and a detailed inquiry was being conducted and strict departmental action taken against the officials.
