KASUR: The 255th annual Urs of the Punjabi Sufi poet Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah began amid tight security here on Friday.

Thousands of devotees from all over the country paid homage to the saint who disseminated the message of love, brotherhood and peace to the humanity. Punjab Auqaf Minister Ihsanuddin Qureshi laid the chaddar. The devotees expressed their concern over poor arrangements in and out of the shrine. They said that there was no barrier between the places allocated for men and women. They said that vagabonds were teasing women, adding that there was no arrangement to distribute ‘Langar’ on the shrine premises.

They said that the district administration had opened only one gate, causing problems for the visitors, especially children and women. Meanwhile, the district administration has declared public holiday on August 25. The Bulleh Shah Conference, Heer Gaiki competition, Mehfal-e-Mushaira and Qawalis would be held on Saturday (today).

DPO Khurram Ali said that over 700 policemen had been deputed to maintain law and order. He said that Rescue 1122, bomb squad and DHQ Hospital staff had set up camps to provide facilities to devotees.
