Extortionist arrested in city

LAHORE, Sept 24: Crimes Investigation Agency police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested an extortionist who demanded Rs2 million from a Chamra Mandi Misri Shah trader.

Police also claimed to have arrested three kidnappers of a three-year-old child. The captors had demanded Rs700,000 ransom for his release.

This was stated by SSP (Investigation) Abdul Rab while speaking at a news conference at his Qila Gujjar Singh office.

The SSP said Sajjad Ahmed of Model Town lodged a complaint with the police on the night of Aug 27 that some unknown persons telephoned him and demanded Rs2 million.

A case was registered with the Faisal Town police. DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Ahmed assigned the task of arresting criminals to CIA SP Umar Virk. In response to his orders, In-charge (Kidnapping for Ransom Cell) Tariq Ilyas Kiani collected information with the help of telephone data and apprehended accused Nazakat Pathan and also recovered a cell phone and SIM from his possession.

The accused, during interrogation, informed that his father Nazir Ahmed had been serving with complainant Sajjad Ahmed as driver for the last 35 years. Nazakat Pathan said he wanted to go to Europe and he knew that Sajjad was very rich so he telephoned him and demanded money.

The SSP said the CIA Civil Lines arrested three criminals namely Muhammad Ahmed, Muhammad Abu Bakar and Murad Mujahid who kidnapped child Abdul Rehman from Lower Mall area for ransom.

Police with the help of call record and secret information, arrested the suspects and recovered Rehman.

Suspect Muhammad Ahmed worked at the shop of the brother of the complainant and knew that Zahid was rich. Therefore, he made a plan with the help of two friends Abu Bakar and Murad Mujahid and kidnapped the child from the street in front of his house and demanded ransom.

In-charge CIA Civil Lines Mian Shafqat and his team took timely action and arrested the criminals as well as recovered the child.

Responding to a question regarding five-year-old rape case, the SSP (Investigation) said polygraph tests of two accused were being examined while DNA test report had yet not been received.

Therefore, it would be premature to make any comment at this stage, he said, adding police were investigating the case from every angle and that the culprits would soon be nabbed.
