Strict security, public co-op ensured peace on Ashura

GUJRANWALA - Lives of people are precious and we are ready to take each and every step to ensure their security, said Gujranwala RPO Capt (r) Amin Vains while talking to The Nation in connection of Muharram security here the other day.

The police have adopted strict security arrangements in and around the city to avert any untoward incident. "Zulijinnah and Tazia processions were held peacefully in all areas due to public cooperation and strict security arrangements," said Mr Vains.

He told this scribe that there were some intelligence reports that terrorist might carried out attacks during Ashura-e-Muharram in the division, adding that the police had recently busted a terrorists' network in Gujrat and the terrorists might retaliated in the ensuing development.

According to the RPO, the timely and effective crackdown helped smashed the terrorist network. "They have confessed to their involved in the killing of seven army and five police officials and told the investigator about their plan to hit Ashura processions in Gujranwala and Lahore," the RPO claimed.

Mr Vains pointed out that a training camp had also been unearth near their hideout. Suicide jackets, remote control devices and other explosive matters were seized during the raid," he revealed. About security personnel's deployment for Ashura, the RPO said that 16,000 cops had been deployed to guard over processions across the division.

He said that the police teams had been equipped with modern weaponry and other gadgets to detect any suspicious activity. Sniper dogs, bomb disposal squads and all other arrangements were made available to meet any contingency besides effective monitoring and thorough searching on all routs to processions and Imambargahs," he remunerated."We took cleric and scholars from all schools of thought on board and they reciprocated positively," he recalled, adding that volunteers played a vibrant role in the entire management of security for Ashura.

The RPO claimed that he personally monitored all the security measures and thanked Almighty Allah for peaceful observance of Youm-e-Ashur.
