Multan: Khanewal police booked five people for allegedly attacking a lawyer and trying to set him on fire on Monday. The police have arrested two of the suspects Tassaduq Raza and Waheed Sheraz – residents of Lahore and Sargodha, respectively.

Complainant Malik Shabbir, a lawyer and district president of Minhaj-ul-Quran, a religious organization, told the police that he was in his chamber when five armed people arrived there and attacked him.
He said the suspects told him to disassociate himself from the cases pertaining to possession of a piece of land allegedly owned by Minhaj-ul-Quran.

He alleged the intruders thrashed him severely and they also wanted to burn him as they were carrying petrol in bottles with them.

The lawyer said that on raising an alarm other lawyers rushed to his chamber and rescued him. The lawyers nabbed two of the attackers who were later handed over to the police. Khanewal City police lodged an FIR under sections 452-379, 148 and 149 against the suspects.
