IGP submits security plan for courts

LAHORE, Nov 29: The Punjab inspector general of police on Tuesday submitted a comprehensive security plan for all courts in the province.

The provincial police chief was directed to come up with the security plan in the wake of an incident occurred on the premises of Rawalpindi district courts wherein four people were killed on Nov 12.

The high court had taken a suo motu notice of the incident.

The IGP in his report informed the court that the police chalked out the security plan after lengthy deliberations with representative of district bar associations. It said committees comprising bar leaders had been constituted to maintain law and order on court’s premises.

The report said instead of the respective station house officers, the regional and district police officers would be held responsible if such incidents would occur in further.

Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed adjourned hearing till Dec 15 and directed LHC (human rights & vigilance cell) Director General Kazim Ali Malik to file his inquiry report by the date.

Four assailants had gunned down their three rivals the moment they entered the court premises. Their indiscriminate firing also claimed life of a passerby. Police had arrested three assailants while the fourth escaped from the scene.
