Security for foreigners enhanced

Mar 04, 2013

RAWALPINDI, March 3: Police have been directed to enhance security around foreigners working on different projects and the police offices and other installations in the city, it has been learnt.

The directive was issued by City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhar during a crime meeting here on Sunday. A source close to the meeting told Dawn that there had been intelligence reports that the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was planning to strike minorities who were key witnesses in some terrorism cases.

Citing the intelligence reports that terrorists might also strike in the city on the eve of the forthcoming general elections, the CPO directed the police officers to further tighten security around police offices and other installations.

According to the source, the CPO expressed concerns over continuing increase in the motorbike theft and purse-snatching incidents in Commercial Market and Saddar.

He asked the police officers to increase patrolling and ensure effective intelligence in the areas.

The CPO came hard on the police officers of New Town, Airport and Saddar Barooni for their failure to resolve important cases and arrest the culprits.

However, he appreciated the police for killing some of the criminals wanted in street crimes.
