6,000 policemen recruited on daily wages

RAWALPINDI: Twenty-two companies of the army and three of Pakistan Rangers would be deployed to maintain peace on the Election Day. Additionally, 6,000 police personnel have been recruited on a daily wage basis for three days to meet the shortage of manpower and assist the police, said City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Abdul Razzaq Cheema.
 
CPO said security arrangements have been completed for the elections, with a comprehensive security plan chalked out to maintain law and order in the district. He informed that contingents of Pakistan Army and Rangers would also remain alert and standby to meet any kind of emergency but overall security responsibilities would be discharged by the police in the district.
 
He said that political parties should cooperate with the city administration in the holding of elections in a peaceful manner. The Election Commission’s code of conduct will be implemented in letter and spirit adding that no one would be allowed to exhibit arms and disturb the peaceful atmosphere, he said. Cheema said that strict action would be taken against the violators.
 
He said that special security would be deployed to provide cover to the election rallies. Nearly 2,150 polling stations would be established in Rawalpindi district which has been divided into 20 sectors. Of the 2,150 polling stations, nearly 93 had been declared as most sensitive in Rawalpindi.
