LAHORE: A robber was caught red-handed by police following an attempted robbery-cum-encounter in Wapda Town on Sunday.

Sattukatla Investigation In-charge Naveed Awan told Dawn two robbers on a motorcycle were looting the driver of a car near Abu Bakar roundabout when he and his subordinates drove by during routine patrol.

He said seeing the police the suspects opened fire and tried to flee on foot, but the police retaliated. The police’s firing left one of the suspects injured while the other managed to escape.

Awan said the injured robber, identified as Tanveer, suffered two bullet wounds in his legs and was shifted to a hospital.

He said Tanveer identified his accomplice as Aziz. Quoting Tanveer, the official said the men had looted a house in Wapda Town a day ago and taken away cash and jewellery worth hundreds of thousands.
