IGP chairs top cops' meeting

LAHORE: In order to enhance the capacity of the Punjab Police in various departments to combat terrorism, the first-ever session of working groups, constituted in this regard by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Khan Baig, was held at Central Police Office, Lahore, on Wednesday, under the guideline of Turkish police officers.

IGP Khan Baig, presided over the session whereas Addl: IGP, Punjab, Sarmed Saeed Khan, Addl: IGP, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Three Turkish Police Officers, Chief Mustafa Ozgular, Dr. SerhatDemir and Dr. Mehmet Unal also attended the meeting.

In the session, the project leaders of these working groups, including Criminal Investigation, Basic Police Behavior and Police Station, Witness Protection, Citizen Centric Policing, Institutional Performance, Use of Technology, Human Resource Management, Crime Prevention, Patrol and Anti Riot Systems, Traffic Management, Counter terrorism, discussed with the Turkish Officers their projects.

Issues like change in police laws as per requirement, use of latest technology, forensic science and police budget were also reviewed in the session. Turkish police officers told the participants that, to eliminate the terrorism from Turkey, their budget was raised equal to the Turkish Army. It was also decided that IGP will hold a meeting in his office on weekly basis to review the progress of the project leaders and Turkish officers.
