Police control rooms set up to monitor law & order situation

RAWALPINDI: Police have set up two central control rooms in the CPO office and Police Lines while all the security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful holding of general elections have also been finalised.
 
The control rooms will monitor the situation round the clock.
 
According to the security plan formulated for general election, as many as 6,000 policemen will be deployed for the security of 2,150 polling stations of the district while over 7,000 police volunteers and additional police force, Punjab Constabulary, Muhafaz Squad, Elite Force, Special Branch officials and ladies police will also perform security duties on May 11. The district has been divided into 209 sub-sectors.
 
Out of total 2,150 polling stations, 223 are of A category, 242 are of B category, and 1,685 polling stations of C category will be given security cover.
 
Foolproof security arrangements have been finalised to avoid any untoward incident on election day. Special arrangements have also been made for police patrolling in all the sectors and sub-sectors.
 
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Abdul Raziq Cheema will supervise the security arrangements and monitor the overall situation on May 11.
 
The entry and exit points of the city will have special pickets and implementation of code of conduct issued by Election Commission of Pakistan for general elections will be ensured. Body search of the voters will be conducted at the polling stations.
 
The police personnel have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on the activity of suspicious persons. No one would be allowed to park any vehicle near polling stations.
 
There will be strict ban on display of arms and aerial firing especially on May 11.
 
All the police officials and volunteers have been given special training and briefings for peaceful holding of general elections.
 
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police have started search operation in different areas of Rawalpindi district to arrest suspected persons. The operation is being supervised by Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations, Mujahid Akbar. A large number of police personnel from various police stations with Station House Officers (SHOs) are taking part in it which will continue till May 11. A number of suspected persons were held on Monday while 75 motorcycles and four vehicles were also impounded. Total 34 hotels and Musafarkhanas were also checked.
 
According to police spokesman, the search operation has been started in a bid to avoid any untoward incident during elections. He said the security arrangements have been completed for the elections, and a comprehensive security plan has been chalked out to maintain law and order in the district.
 
He informed that contingents of Pakistan Army and Rangers would also remain alert and standby to meet any kind of emergency but overall security responsibilities would be discharged by the police in the district.
 
No one would be allowed to display arms and disturb the peaceful atmosphere, he said adding strict action would be taken against the violators.
