132 gangsters held; Rs20m valuables seized in May

LAHORE: Police claimed on Sunday in its monthly report of May that they had arrested 132 suspects, including absconders of 51 gangs, involved in robbery, car theft and murder cases and recovered valuables worth Rs20 million from them.

According to a news release, acting DIG (Investigation) Rana Ayyaz Saleem told journalists in a meeting held at the investigation headquarters that suspects involved in murder cases of Faheem Arshad of North Cantonment area and Jahangir of Kot Lakhpat area were also arrested.

The arrested gangsters were identified as Waseem alias Bhaiya, Shafiqullah, Akbar alias Akku, Ramja, Khalil alias Kheeli, Jameel alias Jeeju, Abdul Ghafoor alias Billa, Abid alias Baani, Yasir alias Munshi, Wajid alias Commando, Tariq Shah, Asif alias Kaku Masih, Irfan alias Fana, Tariq alias Tari, Shahbaz alias Chita, Gulfam alias Gullu, Sakhawat alias Bhai, Noor alias Noori, Hammad alias Hammada, Imran alias Maani, Ghulam Khaliq, Maqbool alias Bhool and Fakhar alias Fakhri.
 
The acting DIG said that a huge quantity of illegal weapons was also recovered from them.
 
He said that gangsters confessed that 269 robbery, theft and murder cases were registered against them in different police stations of the city. Police also recovered a number of stolen cars, motorcycles, trucks, auto-rickshaws, mobile phones, laptops, jewellery items and other valuables from them.
 
The acting DIG said the police had broken the network of the car-theft gang.
 
He also directed the police officers to return the recovered vehicles to their owners.
