LAHORE, Jan 6: The police lost eight officials, including a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector, while 21 others suffered injuries in the line of duty in 2012.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, the police nabbed 3,297 members of 785 criminal gangs and recovered looted valuables, including gold ornaments, cell phones, laptops, cameras, watches and other items, worth Rs 400million.

Similarly, hundreds of car and motorcycle thieves were also arrested and snatched vehicles worth millions of rupees recovered.

Police also arrested 21,488 proclaimed offenders and 7,104 drug peddlers and seized a large quantity of narcotics, including heroin, opium and liquor. They raided a number of gambling dens in the last year, registered cases against 6,224 gamblers and seized stake money and other valuables worth millions of rupees.

In a campaign against brothels, as many as 8,795 men and women were apprehended and booked in 3,343 cases.
