Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah visited Central Police Office and met IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar. IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar and Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah jointly chaired an important meeting, in which all RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, District Public Prosecutors participated through video link. Deputy Prosecutor General Sultan Akbar Chatta, Arshad Ali Farooqi, Ahmad Saeed, Usman Iqbal, Abdul Quddus, District Public Prosecutor Lahore Imtiaz Cheema were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, it was agreed to make the direct coordination between the Central Police Office and the Prosecutor General Punjab more effective. Prosecutor General Punjab and IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar signed the MOU of Working SOPs.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that all units including the police and prosecution have an important and equal role in the criminal justice system. In the meeting, a plan of action was decided to complete the challan of the pending cases of the last 04 years. Prosecutor General Punjab Farhad Ali Shah said that he will provide a special team of prosecutors to complete the challan in the next 14 days, and joint efforts will remove the loopholes causing delay in the cases under investigation. IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that joint teams consisting of police and prosecutors will work together on the challan of the cases under investigation. PITB should take effective measures to update the data of under-investigation cases on the software mechanism. IG Punjab further said that seminars for police and prosecutors will be organized for functional specialization and prosecutorial conduct, IGP Punjab said that to reduce the workload in the investigation wing, additional human resources have been provided after the departmental promotion process. IG Punjab further said that there are challenges due to increasing population and special focus is given to follow-up of cases and accountability. Prosecutor General Punjab said that there is excellent coordination between DPOs and District Public Prosecutors in all districts.
