LAHORE: The police claimed to have arrested an alleged member of a group involved in illegal kidney transplant, while raids are being conducted to arrest others . Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhlaq Ullah Tarrar told media persons here on Sunday that a team of the police busted the network and arrested one of the alleged gang members, Nadeem. About the modus operandi of the network, he said the suspects would trap poor workers and labourers and take them to Islamabad where a team of doctors remove their kidneys. The SP said the arrested suspect told the police that the gang operating in Punjab would hand the victims over to a doctor, Dr Zafar, in Islamabad, paying the “donor” Rs40,000 to Rs50,000 only. Mr Tarar said the issue surfaced when one of the victims of the scam, Saleem, informed the police that the gang took him to Islamabad where the doctors removed his kidney, but paid him nothing. He said the police teams were conducting raids for the arrest of the other members of the gang.
