LAHORE: The city police claimed to have taken 45 suspects into custody for interrogation during a search operation in various parts of the city.
On the directives of Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar, a police team headed by Superintendent of Police Sadar Malik Awais on Sunday night launched a search operation in the godowns, hotels and inns falling in the division, in line with the terror alert issued for the city.
During the operation, police searched 300 houses, 5 godowns, 10 hotels and other places in which police took 45 suspects into custody for interrogation and impounded eight motorcycles.
The Sadar superintendent of police appealed to the people to cooperate with the police during search operations and inform law enforcers if they spotted any suspect or unclaimed luggage.
He said that the city police would utilise all available resources to maintain law and order in the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, Satokatla police claimed to have arrested three gangsters and recovered looted cash, valuables worth thousand of rupees and illegal weapons from them.
On the directives of Lahore CCPO Chaudhry Shafique Ahmad, a police team headed by Chuhng SDPO Anwar Saeed and Satokatla Investigation In-charge Khalid Yaqoob raided various places and arrested three suspected members of a gang. The arrested men have been identified as ringleader Aziz alias Jija, Waqar Ali and Tanvir Ahmad. The police said that they recovered five cell-phones, gold ornaments, cash and illegal weapons from their possession.
The accused confessed to committing a number of robberies and other crimes in Satokatla, Faisal Town, Johar Town, Nawab Town, Liaqatabad and Chuhng areas.
DIG (Investigation) Zulfiqar Hameed has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team that took part in the raid.
Separately, police have arrested two accused of firing on noted writer Asghar Nadeem Syed.
The accused, who were apprehended from flats near WAPDA Town, have been taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation, police sources said. Asghar Nadeem Syed was injured a couple of days ago when two motorcyclists had opened fire on his vehicle near Shaukat Khanum hospital.
