Patrol posts given under DPOs

GUJRANWALA, June 4: Patrolling check posts working separately across the province have been given under the operational control of district police officers (DPOs) while a notification in this regard has been issued by the inspector general of Punjab police here on Monday.

According to a report, the Punjab government had established 288 patrolling check posts throughout the province in 2003 while about 9,145 sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspector and constables and 1,000 drivers and as many wireless operators were recruited for the purpose.

The numbers of check posts in Gujranwala were 39 which were working under the command and control of a separate additional inspector general.

The Punjab government has reportedly given these check posts under the operational control of DPOs for monitoring and coordination to check the crimes on roads.

SSP (Patrolling) Afzal Mehmood Butt confirmed it, saying the patrolling police had arrested several robbers with the cooperation of the district police during a crackdown on various roads in the district.
