100 model police stations to be set up in Punjab: CM

LAHORE: CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government is taking steps for improving the performance of police department so that it can become a symbol of help and protection of the oppressed and the outlaws can be taken to the task.

He said 100 model police stations were being set up in 36 districts of the province out of which, 36 police stations would be established by the end of the current month. He said the police stations would be model regarding their performance, adding that buildings of such police stations had been designed especially in which substantial arrangements had been made for the process of investigation.

Shahbaz expressed the views while addressing a workshop at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat regard to setting up of model police stations here on Monday. He said the environment of police stations would improve through the model police stations. He said that besides provision of modern infrastructure, computer technology and best resources, police officials having professional abilities would be posted in these police stations so that confidence in the people could be promoted by changing traditional Thana culture. He said 26 registers of the police stations would be computerized with the help of a software designed by Punjab Information Technology Board. Similarly, the daily registers (Roznamchas) of the model police stations would also be computerised whereas an electronic complaint system was also being introduced for the convenience of the people.

The CM said the training has had provided to the district police officers and station house officers through Management and Professional Development Department under the project of change of Thana culture. He said that provincial government had also decided that the ISO certification of the model stations should also be conducted.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT: Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government has laid a network of development projects across the province and attention has also been paid to the development of rural areas besides the cities.

The chief minister was addressing a meeting of the assembly members belonging to Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Narowal districts.

POVERTY ALLEVIATION: Shahbaz Sharif has said that special emphasis will be laid on poverty alleviation, generation of job opportunities and promotion of investment in the Annual Development Programme of the new budget.

He said measures would be taken under the ADP for the welfare of students, women as well as labourers, agri economy and  motion of industrial and trade activities with substantial funds. He was addressing a meeting on provincial budget for the fiscal year 2012-13.
