Police mull proposal to introduce ‘shaheed package’

LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has said his department is considering a proposal to introduce “Shaheed Package” in three categories for those policemen who embraced martyrdom during duty.

Addressing a police darbar of the passed out and under-training 671 professionals at the Elite Police Training School in Bedian, he said in the first category those who got shahadat in the terrorism act would get Rs10m, those in encounters with criminals and dacoits Rs5m and those who died during duties would get Rs2.5m.

He said the police department was already paying more benevolent fund as compared to other departments which started from Rs5,000 to Rs10,000.

The IGP said that Rs1,000 per child was also being paid to the shaheed families besides recruitment of at least two kids of a family in the police department.

The handsome medical assistance was being provided for the treatment to those police officers/officials who suffered from serious diseases like kidney failure, liver and heart.

The IGP said the army’s uniform policy would be introduced in the police department under which the force would be provided uniform allowance and the stitched uniform.

The colour and pattern of the uniform was being changed according to the weather conditions and the standard shirt would be replaced with the bow-shirt and the woolen cap with the cotton cap, he said.

Mr Sukhera said instructions had been issued to allow the field officers one weekly off along with casual leaves as per the government rules.

Additional IGP Operations/Investigation retired Capt Arif Nawaz and other senior police officers were also present.
