1,100 cops to get forensic science training

LAHORE: The Police Department has decided to train at least 1,100 officials under supervision of 40 master-trainers from the anti-riot police by September 2016.

The training would focus on application of latest developments in forensic science to improve investigation-wing performance.The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the Central Police Office on Friday. The meeting was presided by Inspector General of Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera. Addl IGP Training Capt (r) Usman Khattak, Addl IGP Welfare and Finance Sohail Khan, Addl IGP Operations/Investigations Capt (r) Arif Nawaz, Addl IGP Special Branch Punjab Faisal Shahkar and Commandant PC Hussain Asghar were present at the meeting.

Addl IGP Training Capt (r) Usman Khattak told the meeting that the 40 master trainers had received training from Turkish experts. He said the training had been arranged at the Police Training School. He said the department was preparing psychological profiles of those who had attended the training.  

Speaking at another meeting with an eight-member delegation of forensic experts, the IGP said that various proposals received from experts regarding forensic training of officials were being considered by the department. He said it was of utmost importance that investigation officers were trained in properly handling the crime scene, securing all evidence including its examination, documentation and submission in the laboratory. The delegation was headed by Forensic Sciences Coordinator at Government College University Muhammad Zahid Qureshi. The IGP directed the authorities concerned to finalise a strategy for forensic training in consultation with the delegation.
